Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Animal Farm Foundation. Located in Dutchess County, NY we welcome volunteers 18 years and older. Individuals under the age of 18 may volunteer, if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
There are many ways to volunteer at AFF, from hands on work with the dogs to administrative tasks in our offices.
Some of our most popular volunteer activities include:

• Working directly with the dogs, providing exercise and socialization.
  
  
• Preparing enrichment tools by stuffing Kongs, cutting treats, and creating busy buckets
  
  
• Assisting with office work, community events, and hanging posters.

BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
Before getting started, potential volunteers must complete the following steps:

• Complete a volunteer application.
• Upon receiving your application, AFF will schedule a volunteer orientation visit. The visit includes a tour and general information about AFF. Orientation is a great time to learn more about the volunteer program and to determine if it’s a good fit for your needs and interests.
  
  
• After the volunteer orientation, two volunteer training visits will be scheduled. Volunteers will shadow a Care and Enrichment or Office Staff Member for training in their desired area of work.
  
  
• Once volunteers have completed orientation and training, they are free to volunteer at their convenience.

Please note that the orientation and training sessions are by appointment only.

BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING
Through their work, volunteers not only become familiar with AFF’s mission, but grow into knowledgeable dog handlers. The staff at AFF is committed to helping volunteers learn by answering questions and demonstrating handling skills. In addition, AFF offers formal learning opportunities such as basic dog training classes. Volunteers are also invited to AFF educational presentations.
