2014 Note: Although this original post is from 2012, we’re always accepting new photos. If you’d like to be a part of The Majority Project, please follow the instructions here!
Since our original casting call went out for the new “I am the MAJORITY” project, we’ve been receiving a steady flow of inspiring photographs from all over the country. From nurses to police officers, from grandparents to good friends, everyday “pit bull” dog owners are standing up to tell the world that they are the rule, not the exception.
Using the photos you’re sending us, we’re creating tools for advocates to use in their communities. These tools, designed to help you fight discriminatory policies, will be rolling out in the coming months.
In the meantime, we decided to throw a little video launch party, just to get you all as excited about the project as we are: Turn up the volume and celebrate!

Wait! Do you want to see all the photos or take a closer look at some of the signs? Maybe you’re curious to see what profession was a top contributor so far (hint: if you guess right, they’ll give you a gold star)!
You can find every single one of the Majority Project photos in our Flickr album. We update it regularly with new photos, so keep checking back!
That’s not all!
We’re featuring every single one of you on our brand new “I am the Majority” photoblog on Tumblr. Every day we’ll share photos from those of you who have already submitted photos, along with new pics we receive. You can even submit new photos through the Tumblr site. We can’t fit everyone’s photos in a video, but we’ll make sure each submission we receive gets featured on the new blog. Pretty nifty, eh?
Make sure you don’t miss a post by subscribing to the I am the Majority blog (subscribe to the RSS feed here).
Here’s what we need YOU to do:
Share this video. Let the public know that caring “pit bull” dog owners are the norm, the rule, the majority! There are MILLIONS of “pit bull” dogs in the country and they are overwhelmingly owned by normal, everyday families.
We are valued members of our communities. We are your co-workers, neighbors, friends and family. We are not the exception, we are the RULE. We are the MAJORITY.
Reckless dog owners are the minority. Policymakers can’t hide behind the lie that “only bad people choose those dogs” and use it as an excuse to outlaw our dogs or banish them from the adoption floor. The discrimination against us and our dogs needs to end. We are the majority!
Use the Flickr Album. Do you know an organization or an individual that needs to meet the majority of “pit bull” dogs owners? Share the Flickr album and introduce them to the majority. It may be an AFF photo album, but it’s a tool you can all use, so please do!
Keep the photos coming. Tell your friends to send in their “I am the Majority” photos. We’ll never stop accepting new photos. The more we collect, the more impact this project will have. Here are the how-to details for submitting photos.
Stay tuned. An Advocate’s Toolkit, based on the Majority Project, will be made available to anyone who is working to show local policymakers that discrimination (aimed at us or the dogs) is unacceptable.
Most importantly, THANK YOU to all the folks who took the time to pose with their dogs and send in a photo. We look forward to shining a spotlight on each and every one of you through our photo album and new blog and appreciate your contribution to helping “pit bull” dogs across the country!
